Claire Phelan

Head of Operations & Senior Director | UPMC Ireland

An expert in healthcare operations, Claire spent the first 17 years of her career working in operations management in the public health system. She then made the leap from public to private, serving as Director of Operations for a leading healthcare consultancy and outsourcing organisation working across the US and Ireland.  During this phase of her career, she oversaw the management of government contracts for the HSE and provided consultancy and quality programmes for Irish diagnostic companies and private hospitals.

Claire became Director of Operations with UPMC Whitfield, the largest private hospital in the South East, in June 2019.  Her core role involves leading and implementing all operational and continuous process improvements, as well as co-ordinating UPMC Whitfield’s growing number of consultants and specialist staff, as it continues to expand as a regional centre of medical excellence.

The UPMC Whitfield campus is operated by UPMC, the international not-for-profit healthcare company that is transforming the way health care is provided. Already trusted by millions of patients across the world, the company operates 40 hospitals, as well as 600 doctors’ offices and outpatient sites, and is now delivering this global expertise to those living in the South East of Ireland.

A graduate of Waterford Institute of Technology, Claire holds an Executive Master’s in Business Administration.
